WhatsApp will let you choose the quality of the photos and videos that you send to other people

The photos and videos that are sent on WhatsApp are compressed so that they take up less space and are sent faster. It is possible to send them in original quality, although it is more of a gimmick than a function. WhatsApp is now working on allowing you to choose the quality when sending photos and videos.

We already knew that WhatsApp was working on allowing you to send higher quality videos and now WaBeta Info has discovered that the same will apply to photos. You can choose between saving data, better quality or automatic.

Choose your quality

In the WhatsApp options there are some settings related to saving data, such as using less data for calls or if photos and videos are downloaded with data or only with Wi-Fi, but otherwise there is no control over the quality of the photos or videos that are sent. They are always sent compressed, unless you send them as documents.

WhatsApp is now working in an intermediate mode, for which there will be two possibilities: better quality, energy saving or automatic mode. This option will be available in the settings, in the Storage and data section, both for sending photos and videos.

Sending with data saving is probably the same as the current setting, and assumes that photos and videos are compressed to be small – they will send faster and use less data. On the other hand, the best quality mode will use more data and take a little longer to send.

It should be noted that these are upload options, so that as the person who receives the videos, it does not seem that you are going to have options: you will get what the other person has chosen. It is not clear what the final difference in quality between the two settings will be or what the automatic mode will take into account. We will have to wait to know more details about it.
