If Elon Musk eventually buys Twitter, there will be a lot of updates on the social networking giant, but what do you think they will be?Â
It’s no more news that Elon announced to buy Twitter for $54.20/share, or about $43 billion.
Elon Musk is one of the brightest personalities on Twitter. Aside from advertising his brand, Tesla, Elon is a major influencer of Dogecoin cryptocurrency.Â
In March 2021, Elon announced that Tesla now accepts cryptocurrency, exclusively Dogecoin, as their payment method. This announcement made DogeCoin’s price go up, and its investors were super excited about it.Â
In May 2021, Elon made another statement about crypto. He stated that cryptocurrency isn’t environmentally friendly and should be abolished. The tweet made the price of crypto fall, and it was a shock to almost every cryptocurrency enthusiast.
A few months ago when Elon increased his Twitter shares, he disclosed his interest in buying the social media network. If this eventually happens, here are some updates we think you should expect on the social media platform.
1. Tweet Edit
If you made a mistake in a published tweet, there is no edit button, you have to delete and rewrite it.
In April 2022, Elon openly asked his followers if they wanted a button to edit their tweets. Alot of people showed interest, but in turn, Twitter developers disclosed that they are testing the ability to preview tweets, but adding an edit button can not be ascertained. Recently, Twitter opened an edit option for its paid users while people using the app for free can only edit their tweets after 30 seconds. However, if Elon eventually buys Twitter, the edit option might be generalized.Â
2. Verification Procedure
On his profile, Elon Musk suggested that the procedure for Twitter accounts verification should be reviewed. He also proposed that the labeling of verified accounts should be divided into categories such as authors, officials, and the media. Presently, Twitter verification is a bit strange: you can get a verification badge without applying for it. On the other hand, you can apply for it and not get a favorable response.Â
3. Enhanced Security
Like other celebrities, Elon Musk’s account was hacked, and the hacker made a tweet that people should donate Bitcoin to a specific wallet address and get double of their money in a few hours/days. If Elon is privileged to buy Twitter, he will no doubt, strengthen the platform’s security to prevent such incidents from happening again.
4. Open Algorithm
The algorithm for selecting feeds and recommended profiles on Twitter is quite unclear. Twitter has been criticized a couple of times for using an algorithmic feed instead of a chronological feed. In one of his tweets, Elon said Twitter should be using an open-source algorithm, but it’s not clear why he said that. Regardless, the Twitter algorithm might change if Elon Musk becomes the new owner
5. Delete Inactive Accounts
Elon disclosed that some official accounts with a lot of followers are “dead.” This figure tempers with the statistics of Twitter because it makes it difficult to understand the actual numbers of opinion leaders. Elon believes deleting inactive accounts on Twitter will ensure transparency and allows people to know the real people behind thought leaders’ accounts. It won’t be a surprise if inactive accounts are deleted when Elon becomes the new Twitter owner.Â
