Also, if you receive a message that looks like it is from Amazon by SMS, email, be careful! Buying/selling companies like Amazon are common in phishing campaigns.
SMS of false sweepstakes and false prizes from Amazon
One of the most common ways used. Recently, we had contacted a company we thought we had received a message from. The company confirmed that the message was not communicated by them.
Phishing is the technique used here. What is this “phishing” and how to prevent it?
Phishing attacks can employ a wide variety of mobile applications, including SMS, social media, and messaging apps, in addition to email, which is the traditional method. Identifying if the message is phishing or legitimate is not an easy task, the phisher has specialized in deceiving any user and obtaining the information they are looking for.
Criminals capture our attention with some excuses, redirect you to one of their fraudulent web pages. The next step is always requiring personal information from you or demanding that you should buy a software. This is typically how phishing works.
Beware of received links and suspicious online advertisements, check where these links lead you when you hover your mouse over them. Do not enter sites from search engines, they can easily deceive you and always verify that it is the desired website.
Amazon would not force you to make a decision. When you start hearing a strong compelling tone, go of the site. Check that the link text matches the address it points to. Communicate only through a corporate email domain. If it is not a corporate email domain, then you are at high risk
Trust only the official communication channels of the institution you are interacting with.
Security more or less is in our hands, so we have a big role to play. Often time we have one password for all our online services, not a good idea, use a strong and different password for each of your platforms and try to change them as frequently as possible.Â
Always keep applications and antivirus updated, these contain patches against new vulnerabilities that will help you protect yourself. And always remember to be alert, the most effective barrier against Phishing is you.
