Starbucks Customers Can Earn Delta SkyMiles With Purchases: Here’s How

On Wednesday (Oct.12), Starbucks and Delta Airlines struck a partnership allowing members to link their Starbucks and Delta reward accounts and become part of an alliance loyalty program, which is “the merging of two of America’s most regarded loyalty programs.”

Now, SkyMiles members will earn one meal on each dollar spent at a Starbucks coffeehouse and double stars or reward points from Starbucks each time they fly With Delta Airlines.

To be eligible, you must link your Delta SkyMiles and Starbucks loyalty program account before participating in the Starbucks-Delta program. To complete this, visit deltastarbucks.com and follow the given instructions.

Additionally, customers who link their accounts between Wednesday (Oct. 12) and Saturday (Dec.31) will earn an extra 500 SkyMiles for making a qualifying Starbucks purchase and 150 Starbucks Reward Stars, which is just enough to get you a free cup of coffee.

Both companies own two of the nation’s most-prominent customer loyalty programs. Starbucks has over 25 million members across the United States, while Delta has about 100 million members globally (Delta refuses to disclose its numbers in the United States).

Delta has started adding Starbucks to the list of premium benefits, which it reserves only for its SkyMiles Medallion Members. 

Starting next year, Delta Platinum and Diamond SkyMiles members can choose among 4,000 Starbucks Stars as part of their annual choice benefits incentive.

Additionally, Delta is the first American company to collaborate with Starbucks’ Reward Together program. After this, there may be more powerful collaborations with other giant companies too. 

Earlier this year, Starbucks Canada announced its new partnership with Air Canada’s Aeroplan and TD Bank’s loyalty program. “Our goal is to increase awareness about and propel the growth of the Starbucks Rewards initiative,” Starbucks Canada said in its official statement.

The coffeehouse giant is tearing a page from Delta’s book regarding partnerships. The aviation giant already partakes in multiple collaborative efforts that allow its members to earn SkyMiles without flying. These programs include Instacart purchases, Airbnb stays, and Lyft rides.
