If you enjoy a good deal and live in University City, you’ll be pleased to learn that Costco has recently opened a new location nearby.

This Tuesday, Costo opened its fourth store in the St. Louis area at 8685 Olive Blvd, as part of the $211 million Market at Olive redevelopment along Interstate 170. Like the other three Costco locations in St. Louis, the new University City location will have a gas station and tire center.

Before you get too excited to start shopping, here are five things you should know about Costo’s newest location.

Let’s jump right in!

1. Earlier opening time

If you want to be among the first to shop at the new Costco, you should arrive earlier than usual. Why? The new store will open at 8 a.m. instead of the usual 10 a.m.

The reason for these early opening hours is that many other people like you, are eager to visit the new store. As a result, Costco is attempting to accommodate an expected number of customers.

The store’s regular hours will return to normal following its debut, with hours starting from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays. On Saturdays, it will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

2. Don’t snooze on the limited items

Costco is bringing in-demand and limited-edition items to its new location, and you won’t want to miss out. The new location will stock “spice goods,” as Costco refers to them.

PS5 and Xbox consoles, which are difficult to find in other stores, will be among the in-demand items available at the store. You can get one of these items before the holidays. However, aside from those items, you can expect to find other Costco favorites.

3. Same size, same design

Another interesting fact is that the new University City Costco is the same size as the other Costco locations in St. Louis. The store is 151,000 square feet, which is comparable to the typical Costco warehouse size of 70,000 to 165,000 square feet. If you’ve been to a Costco in St. Louis, you should already have an idea of what this store will look like.

4. First-time Costco customer, here’s what you should know

If you’ve never shopped at Costco but want to now that one is nearby, there are a few things you should know. To begin, Costco is a warehouse that requires membership. So, if you aren’t already a member, you should sign up before visiting the new store.

Costco offers three levels of membership plans, which you can choose from:

  • An Executive membership costs $120 per year and comes with a free Household card. It also includes a 2% annual reward on eligible Costco purchases.
  • The Business membership costs $60 per year and comes with a free Household Card. Members can also add affiliate cardholders and make resale purchases at Costco.
  • The Gold Star membership is also $60, but it only includes a free Household Card.

5. Plans for the store date back to the 1990s

According to Pace Properties broker Rick Randall, when Costco first announced its intentions to open its first location in St. Louis in 1999, the firm considered the city to be a three-to-four-store market.

So it appears that the fourth store has always been a part of Costco’s plans. However, it’s unclear whether the comapany has always intended to open a store in University City.

Are you excited to shop at Costco’s new store?

Costco customers in University City no longer have to travel far to shop at their favorite stores. Costco recently opened a new location in University City, making it the retailer’s fourth location in the St. Louis area.
