Are you out or in an emergency and want to share your location with your loved ones? Regardless of the reason, there are two ways to share your location on iPhone.Â
We’ll walk you through both methods so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.
Why You Might Want to Share Your Location on iPhone
There are a few reasons you might want or need to share your location with someone. Maybe you’re meeting a friend for dinner and you want them to know exactly where you are, so they can find you. Or maybe you’re going on a hike, and you want your family to be able to track your progress in case something happens.
Whatever the reason, sharing your location on iPhone is easy to do and can give people peace of mind that they know where you are.
Here is how to do it:
There are two ways to share your location on iPhone: through the Find My Friends app, and in Messages.Â
Let’s go over both of them.
- How to Share Your Location Using the “Find My” app
- To share your location using the “Find My” app, open the app and sign in with your Apple ID.
- The app will display your location on the map. Then tap on people from the main bar at the bottom.
- You’ll see your device listed at the top of the screen. Select your device, and then select “Share My Location
- You can choose to share your location for one hour, until the end of the day, or indefinitely. You can also choose to share your location with all of your friends, some of your friends, or a specific friend. When you’re done, tap “Share.”
Your friends and family will be able to see your location on a map, and they’ll be able to get directions to where you are.
How to share location with someone on iMessage
- Open the Messages app and start a new conversation or open an existing one.
- At the top, click the contact icon.
- Tap the Share My Location button (it looks like a location pin).
- Select how long you want to share your location (1 hour, until the end of the day, or indefinitely).
- Tap Send.
Your location will be shared with the person you are messaging, and they’ll be able to see it on a map.
Limitations of Sharing Your Location with Friends and Family
You should be aware of the limitations of sharing your location with friends and family before you do it. For one, they can only see your location if you have enough battery power on your phone and if you’re connected to a network.Â
If either of those things isn’t true, they won’t be able to see your location.
Another thing to keep in mind is that people can only see your location if you’ve chosen to share it with them. If you share your location with someone, they can see where you are even if you’re not actively using your phone.Â
So if you want to keep your location private, make sure you turn off sharing when you’re not using it.
Finally, keep in mind that sharing your location is a two-way street. They can also see your location if you share it with someone. So if you’re uncomfortable with someone knowing where you are, don’t share your location with them.
Conclusion
Discussed are the two ways you can share your location with friends and family on your iPhone. Choose the one that’s more convenient for you, and stay safe out there.
